Goke, Body Snatcher from Hell [Kyuketsuki Gokemidoro] (1968)

Wow.

For those of you needing a longer review:

Wow.

This is not your average Japanese SF movie of the 60s.  Goke is all in its own insane, psychedelic class.

Against a horrible orange sky, a flying saucer forces a jetliner down into the mountains.  If that wasn’t bad enough, there is a terrorist on board.  Oh, and the flying saucer has landed not too far away, and the creature inside has taken over one of the survivors so it can kill the rest of them off one by one.

The use of color is extraordinary – and it is hard to unsee the moment when the victim’s head splits open so the creature can crawl inside.

And, sorry, kiddies, it all comes to a very downbeat ending, with a horde of invading saucers which  Tim Burton stole for Mars Attacks

Or, to summarize:

Wow.
